The client

Forum Jewellers is an established independent jeweller in Broadstone, near Poole in Dorset, known locally for engagement rings, nomination jewellery, repairs and remodelling. They wanted their online visibility to match their local reputation, and to start capturing the much larger regional and national jewellery demand searching every month.

The challenge

The business already had strong recognition around Broadstone, but a lot of high-value jewellery search was slipping past them. Major terms such as ‘jewellery’, ‘engagement rings uk’ and ‘silver wedding rings’ were not ranking at all, and several commercial terms sat outside the top positions where almost all the clicks go.

What we did

We structured the site around the jewellery categories and locations that genuinely mattered, sharpened the Google Business Profile and local relevance signals, and built genuine depth on the pages most likely to convert. The focus was on earning first-page positions for the terms that drive real footfall and enquiries, rather than chasing volume for its own sake.

The results

Over six months (January to July 2026), Forum Jewellers moved to the top of jewellery search across Dorset and, for several terms, nationally. The seven head terms now at #1:

 Monthly searchesPosition
jewellery135,000#1 — up 99 places from not ranking
jewellers40,500#1
jewellers near me22,200#1
jewellery shop near me19,100#1
jewellery shop14,800#1
jewellery shops14,800#1
jewellery stores3,600#1

Plus #1 for local terms including ‘jewellers dorset’ and ‘jewellers broadstone’. Beyond the head terms, the commercial range moved into the top ten:

 PositionMovement
silver wedding rings#5up more than 90 places
engagement rings uk#6up more than 90 places
jewellery uk#6up more than 90 places
gold wedding bands#7up more than 90 places
diamond earrings studs#8up more than 90 places
platinum engagement rings#27from #66

What this does and does not show. These are search positions and traffic figures, taken from Analytics and rank tracking over the same six-month window. They are not revenue figures. Rankings are the part we control and can evidence; what they are worth commercially depends on margins, conversion and capacity, which sit with the client.

What the client said

Forum Jewellers have worked with us for over a year, across monthly reporting, content and the structural work described above.

What transferred

The headline — #1 for a 135,000-a-month term — makes this look like a national SEO story. It was not. It was local SEO done thoroughly, and the national positions followed.

  • Category structure before volume chasing. The site was organised around the jewellery categories and locations that genuinely mattered to the business, not around whichever keywords had the biggest numbers next to them.
  • Depth on the pages most likely to convert, rather than thin pages spread across every possible term. Thin coverage of many topics is the most common reason this kind of result does not happen — see why near-identical pages fail.
  • An established local reputation to build on. Forum Jewellers was already well known in Broadstone. The work connected that standing to search rather than manufacturing authority from nothing, which is why a complete Google Business Profile mattered as much as anything on the website.

That last point is the honest caveat as well as the lesson. A business with genuine local reputation and a real shop has something to work with. A new business with neither would not see this pattern, and we would say so rather than take the brief.

Questions

Questions about this result

Did Forum Jewellers really rank #1 for 'jewellery'?

Yes, for a term with roughly 135,000 monthly UK searches, having previously not ranked at all - a gain of 99 places over six months to July 2026. Search results vary by location and personalisation, so any individual check may differ.

How does a local jeweller outrank national retailers?

By being genuinely relevant rather than simply larger. Google weighs local signals heavily for retail searches, so a well-structured site plus a strong Google Business Profile and real local standing can beat a national brand with thin local relevance.

Are results like this typical?

No. This is the strongest result in our portfolio and it is published because it is well evidenced, not because it is representative. It rested on an established local reputation that most new businesses do not have.

How long did it take?

Six months, January to July 2026, with movement appearing progressively rather than all at once. Terms with lower competition moved first; the head terms took most of the window.

What does a #1 ranking for a high-volume term actually deliver?

Visibility, which is what we can evidence. What it is worth commercially depends on margins, conversion and stock - questions for the business rather than for us. We publish rankings and traffic because those are the parts we can demonstrate.

Would this work for a business with no local reputation?

Less well, and we would say so. Part of what made this work was connecting an existing reputation to search. Building that reputation is a slower, different job, and pretending otherwise would waste your money.
