The short answer
For a UK local business, GEO work is priced much like competent local SEO — because most of the underlying work is the same. Expect a few hundred pounds a month for an ongoing programme at small-business scale, more where there are multiple locations or a genuinely competitive market.
Be wary of both ends. Far below the market usually means automated output nobody edits. A large premium charged purely for the letters “AI” rarely buys anything the same money would not buy as local SEO.
What you are actually paying for
| Typical UK cost | Suits | Watch for | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do it yourself | Time only | Owners with a few hours a month and some patience | Stalling after the easy wins |
| One-off audit and fix | A few hundred to low thousands, once | Foundations are a mess and someone in-house can maintain them | No follow-through afterwards |
| Ongoing programme | Low hundreds per month upward | Most local businesses wanting steady progress | Retainers that are mostly one-off work repeated |
| Multi-location or franchise | Scales with locations | Anyone with several branches to govern | Per-location pricing for centralised work |
Our own packages run from £100 to £400 a month and are published on the AI SEO service page rather than held back for a sales call. That is deliberate: pricing you have to ask for is usually pricing that varies by how much the seller thinks you will pay.
What drives the price up or down
- How much groundwork is missing. A business with a complete profile, consistent details and a review habit needs far less work than one starting cold.
- How many locations. Governance across branches is where cost genuinely scales.
- How competitive the market is. Being named in a Dorset town is a different job from being named in central London.
- Whether content is included. Restructuring pages properly takes time; a cheap quote often excludes it.
- Whether measurement is included. Running a monthly baseline across four assistants is real work, and it is the first thing dropped from a thin package.
What should not drive it up: the word AI. If the same agency charges materially more for GEO than for local SEO, ask what is actually different in the scope of "work.
Is it worth paying for at all?
Often the honest answer is “not yet”. The highest-value work — completing your Google Business Profile, making your details identical everywhere, asking customers for reviews properly — costs time rather than money and a capable owner can do all of it.
Paying makes sense for the parts that are fiddly and continuous: auditing citations across dozens of sources, technical and schema work, building third-party presence, and running the measurement every month.
