A great deal of SEO reporting is designed to look substantial. Traffic graphs, impression counts, keyword position tables, domain authority trends — forty pages that take an hour to read and never answer the only question the business owner has, which is whether the work is bringing in customers.
Local businesses need a shorter report with different numbers in it.
What we report, and what we leave out
| Where it comes from | Why it matters | |
|---|---|---|
| Phone calls from search | Business Profile and call tracking | The most direct measure of local demand |
| Direction requests | Business Profile | Customers physically on their way |
| Form and booking enquiries | Site analytics | Tied to the page and search that produced them |
| Map rankings across a grid | Grid rank tracking | Rankings vary by where the searcher stands |
| AI assistant mentions | Sampled prompts across engines | Whether you are named for your core services |
| Raw traffic totals | Analytics | Context only — traffic is not customers |
Rankings are not a single number
Local rankings depend on where the person searching is standing. A business can be first in the map pack near its premises and absent a few miles away, so a single “position 3” figure is close to meaningless. We track rankings across a grid of points covering your service area, which shows exactly where you are strong and where the work still needs to go.
Honest about what cannot be measured
Some things are hard to attribute. A customer who saw you in the map pack, visited the site a week later from a direct link and then phoned will not show up cleanly in any single tool. We say where attribution is incomplete rather than presenting a precise-looking number we cannot stand behind. AI visibility in particular is a sampled estimate, not an exact count, and we report it that way.
A report you can read in five minutes
The first page answers what happened this month, whether it is better or worse than last month, and what we are doing next. The detail sits behind it for anyone who wants it. The underlying data comes from Search Console, your Business Profile, analytics and call tracking, all of which remain yours if you ever stop working with us.
